Intrigues As Third Best Candidate Is Appointed Uniabuja VC
There is disquiet in the University of Abuja community especially among who feel it is wrong for the third best candidate to be appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Sources say already there is a division along religious lines in the university community, as those who share the faith candidates who came first and second felt discriminated against.
Professor Umar Danbatta from Bayero University, Kano came first with 87% scores followed by Professor AbdulRaheem Adebayo Lawal of University of Ilorin with 73% score.
The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Michael Adikwu came third with 64%. But he was appointed the Vice-Chancellor by retired Brigadier-General Samuel Ogbemudia led council.
Those who didn't want Danbatta as the Vice-Chancellor spread rumours within and outside the university that he was a candidate of Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Adikwu, a professor of pharmacy from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who hails from Benue State, has promised to reconcile all within the university for peace to reign.
But a group within the university has vowed to take the matter to court over the refusal to follow merit in the VC's appointment
