Kwara N10b loan: ACN ignorant of governance – PDP

Date: 2012-01-25

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the uninformed outburst of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN's) on the proposed N10 billion loan by the state government as a display of ignorance on the art of good governance. The PDP said that for the ACN to have criticised the state government's decision to borrow funds from the capital market for vital development projects further confirms the position of the party that the ACN has nothing to offer the people of Kwara State. This was the position of the Kwara PDP in a statement signed by the party's Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Masud Adebimpe and made available to National Mirror. Adebimpe asked: How can anyone question the importance of the rehabilitation of hospitals, the establishment of an international vocation centre to empower our youth for employment as well as the completion of the Ilorin Metropolis Water Reticulation Project phase one, for the benefit of the generality of the people of the state? Other projects to be executed in the N10 billion loan, according to Adebimpe, include the Kwara Holding Company Limited, Kwara State University, Local Government Road Projects, the International Diagnostic Centre, Cargo Terminal Apron Project and renovation of five General Hospitals. He stressed that projects such as the Cargo Terminal Apron Project and the International Diagnostic Centre are important components of the government's plan to strengthen Kwara State's emerging reputation as an investment destination that will generate employment. His words: The state government needs to complete the apron in order to make the cargo terminal operational and given the investment that has gone into the diagnostic centre, we have no choice but to complete it.
