Eight die in five Easter accidents in Kwara.

At least eight persons lost their lives in five major road accidents that occurred in different parts of Kwara state during last Easter celebration.

Kwara state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mrs. Mary Wakama, who made this disclosure to newsmen on Friday, said a total of 99 persons were involved in the five accidents out of which 91 were injured.

Wakama, who attributed the cause of the accidents to dangerous driving, speed limit violation among other traffic offences, said the command also arrested 320 traffic offenders during the period for committing 331 offences while 278 motorists were cautioned.

Offences committed by some motorists during the period according to Wakama included seat belt violation, tyre violation, side mirror violation and overloading among other things.

She said the two Mobile Courts in llorin and Omu Aran prosecuted 63 traffic offenders out of which 58 were convicted and five discharged.
