Jonathan, Governors, Security Chiefs, Others in Expanded Nigeria Security Council Meeting
The expanded Security Council meeting called by President Goodluck Jonathan was still ongoing as at 3:30 p.m.
The meeting was attended by the president, heads of security agencies, and state governors.
The meeting was also attended by the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ayo Oritsejafor; and the head of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar.
Some of the attendees at the meeting include the governors of Anambra, Abia, Benue, Zamfara, Ebonyi, Delta, Kwara, Kaduna, Sokoto, Adamawa, Taraba, Ekiti, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Cross River, Ondo, and Edo states. The deputy governors of Plateau, Jigawa, Oyo, Borno, Yobe, Imo, Rivers, Kano, Ogun, Yobe, and Nasarawa were also in attendance.
Others include the Inspector General of Police, Marshal General of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration service, Minister of Police Affairs, Service Chiefs, National Security Adviser, Ministers of Defence, Interior, FCT, Foreign Affairs, Justice, and the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The meeting is expected to focus on the worsening security situation across the country particularly in northern states.
The meeting is part of an enlarged security meeting the president is holding to review the security situation across the country.
A similar but controversial meeting was held last week Thursday with security chiefs and state governors in attendance. However, the 16 governors of the All Progressives Congress were not invited for that meeting.
The worsening insecurity has led to the killing of scores of people in various states like Zamfara, Taraba, Borno, and others in the last one month. Over 200 female students of a secondary school were also kidnapped in Chibok, Borno last week.
