Kwara to establishes Council on Works, Health management Board
Kwara State Executive Council has approved the establishment of State Council on Works and Transport to harmonise activities of state and the local governments in the provision of infrastructure.
The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr Abubakar Kannike, said this while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting on Thursday in Ilorin.
He said the council also approved the establishment of State Hospital Management Board.
“With the approval, the Commissioner for Health is to ensure provision of qualitative and accessible health care delivery to the people, especially the grassroots by the tertiary health institutions in the state.
He explained that the approval for the establishment of council followed the decision reached at the last National Council on Works and Transport that states should establish State Councils on Works and Transport.
“The council will ensure a synergy of activities of the state and local governments in the provision of infrastructure.
“It will also guide against duplication and wastage of resources as well as enhance access to technical competence at the state level by the local governments,’’ he said.
The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Abdul-Kayode Issa, said the board would complement activities of the existing boards in the provision of qualitative health care to the people.
The boards include those of Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency and the Kwara State Community Health Insurance Scheme.
According to Issa, all general hospitals in the state would be under the supervision of the Health Management Board.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Tunji Moronfoye, said the council also approved the reactivation and establishment of more grazing reserves in all parts of the state.
According to the commissioner, the decision was taken to check instances of clash between farmers and Fulani herdsmen.
“The state government took this measure because of the clash between some Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Alapa, Asa Local Government Area.’’ (NAN)
