Herdsmen/Farmers Clash - Kwara to Set Up New Grazing Areas
Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed yesterday directed the state's ministry of agriculture to create new grazing areas across the state as part of measures to check clashes between herdsmen and farmers, as well as other communal clashes.
Ahmed, who gave the directive while receiving the report of the Judicial Commission on Civil Disturbances in Alapa, Asa local government area of the state, noted that there was the need for unrelented promotion of peace and external vigilance to ensure communal harmony.
He promised that the findings and recommendations of the committee would be carefully studied with a view to implementing them and that anyone found to have incited communal violence under any guise would face the wrath of the law.
"It is my hope that recommendations contained in this report will provide reliable legal and social remedies for civil disturbance among communities in Kwara State," he said.
The governor directed the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold to constitute a White Paper and Implementation Committee to look into the findings of the panel and ensure the immediate implementation of the recommendations of the report.
The governor emphasised that his administration would not leave any community in the state out of its development programme as youth job intervention and people oriented project would be driven by equity and established need.
The chairman of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry, Justice Baba Muhammad commended the state government for not interfering in the proceeding of the commission.
Muhammad expressed the hope that the four volume report would bring lasting solution to the Alapa communal clash.
