7 Policemen, 3 Others Killed In Kwara Robbery Attack
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara state, Mr Agboola Oshodi- Glover on Monday confirmed that seven policemen and three civilians were killed in the robbery incident that occurred in Offa last Thursday.
About 30 armed robbers had, on Thursday, December 19, 2013, attacked four commercial banks in Offa and carted away millions of naira.
The police commissioner's confirmation of the casualty figure came just as some policemen were said to have shot two persons dead at Oja- Oba area of Ilorin, the state capital.
The policemen were said to be on the trail of some smugglers when the incident occurred.
An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP that the victims were hit by strayed bullets.
Addressing journalists on the Offa incident, the police commissioner vowed to bring the perpetrators to book.
Oshodi-Glover described the robbery incident as sad and terrible.
While assuring the people of Offa and the commercial banks of their safety, the police boss urged them to go about their lawful businesses.
He disclosed that a new special anti- robbery (SARS) has been set up in Omu-Aran axis to tighten security in the area.
He added that the command would like to sympathise with the families of deceased persons who lost their lives in the robbery incident at Offa on the December 19, 2013.
"The command wishes to assure the good people of Offa and Kwara State as a whole that the police in the state will not rest on their oars until this gang of armed robbers is brought to book.
"The command, therefore, appeals to the people of Offa that the security of lives and property of Offa people is highly guaranteed and the people should please go about their lawful businesses and have confidence in the police in the state.
"I also want to appeal to our commercial banks to be assured that the police will continue to work with them in protecting their interest as we share the pain and sorrows over lives of the staff that were lost.
"The command has beefed up security around Offa and Omu-Aran Area to properly ensure adequate security in that axis and around the state generally," he said.
