PDP/APC Merger - 'No Sure-P Beneficiary Would Be Replaced'
Kwara State Coordinator of Subsidy Re-Investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) Mr. Moses Ibiyemi has allayed fears of 3,500 beneficiaries of the programme in the state that they would not be sacked due to last week's defection of their leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) into the All Progressive Congress(APC).
It was gathered that some beneficiaries and local government council coordinators of the SURE-P trooped the state office of the programme in Ilorin to enquire about their fate over the current political situation in the state.
Some of them expressed fears and apprehension that they might be replaced as a result of the defections of their leaders who brought them into the programme.
But the state coordinator of the programme Mr. Ibiyemi, while speaking with journalists in Ilorin yesterday assured that no beneficiary would be replaced.
"The beneficiaries of the programme in Kwara have been collecting their monthly allowance of N10,000 and this will continue so as to add values to their socio-economic well being. The president is committed to the social well being of Nigerians, irrespective of their political lineages and therefore he has directed us not to replace any member in view of the recent defection of some of the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. We should not say that because their former leaders dumped PDP for APC, they should go, no, they would be there so as to allow them have a new lease of life and to make them better than what they were before," he said.
He added that from 2014, the Federal Government would widen the scope of SURE-P and include agriculture in order to accommodate more members.
