'FG, lecturers should reach a compromise'
Chairman, Governing Board of ECWA Theological Seminary, Igbaja, Kwara State, Dr. Samson Opaluwah, has urged the Federal Government and the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities to reach a compromise and bring to an end ASUU's strike which has lasted for about four months.
Opaluwah said the prolonged strike had negatively affected educational as well as national growth, stressing that the strike had also affected the students academically, morally and psychologically.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on the sideline of the seminary's graduation on Sunday, he said corruption had been pervasive in the country and had inhibited growth in almost all sectors.
Opaluwah said, "Whatever might have been their differences, whatever might have been the challenges between them and their employers, what we can preach to them is that they should reach a compromise with one and another in the interest of our children and in the interest of nation's development.
"There is no country that can develop without bringing its younger generation on board. It is not good as children who suppose to be in school to be staying at home for a long time now.
"The practical way forward on ASUU is that they must be reaching a compromise. There must be give and take between them and their employers. And they must know that the implication of letting our children sitting at home at the back of their mind is danger."
