Dabarako tasks medics on behavioural change

Date: 2013-09-18

Behavioural change of healthcare professionals has been identified as panacea to the successful implementation of quality service delivery in that sector.

The Head of Service, Kwara State, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed made the observation yesterday at a two-day workshop on ‘Quality Service, Ethics and Productivity’ for healthcare providers in Ilorin, the state capital.

Alhaji Mohammed noted that poor performance is not necessarily linked to individual competence, but may also have much to do with the context in which performance takes place. "Therefore, to bring about improvement, we must positively change the ways we approach our tasks, for if we continue doing what we always do then we will always achieve what we always have".

The HOS who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Training, Hajia Zahra Umar, stated that it was gratifying that the workshop was deliberately designed to expose and equip participants with global best practice and by extension domesticate them with contemporary operational models of Quality Assurance in public healthcare delivery techniques needed in their respective medical fields.

He re-emphasized the commitment of the present administration of Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed in human capital development, commending its efforts of giving timely approval for the workshop which was organized by Kols Corporate Ltd in partnership with the state Ministry of Health and office of the Head of Service.

Speaking earlier, the representative of the State Commissioner of Health who was also one of the resource persons, Dr. Isaac Oludipe appreciated the organizers of the programme, calling it one in a long time, but which had a lot of advantages, touching on meaningful topics that would make participants richer in delivering their service.

In her remark, the Kols Chief Consultant, Mrs. M.T. Olukolade tasked Nigerian professionals to be up and doing as there was no reason to lag behind their counterparts in other parts of the world.

Also speaking, the Director, Kols Corporate Ltd, Mr. Adeife Olukolade maintained that the seminar was all about quality in service delivery, stressing that they were careful in choosing in-house professionals as resource persons to facilitate harmony.

He asserted that the dream of firms like theirs was to improve efficiency in the country, charging authorities to exploit latest ICT facilities to improve on aspects of healthcare practice especially record keeping.

The workshop which would round up today featured paper presentations by resource persons among whom was a former Secretary to the Government of Kwara State, Mr. Joshua Ogunlowo, while attendance attracted directors, Mrs. Sarah Kperogi(HOS), Hajia Risikat Bolanle Lawal(MOH), Dr. Omar Ibrahim(MOH), among other dignitaries.
