Saraki alleges plan to clamp down on opposition leaders
Saraki, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, however said the opposition was prepared for the clamp down, and would not succumb to intimidation.
He warned the federal government against creating a constitutional crisis in the country by tampering with the May 29 handover date.
Addressing newsmen in Ilorin after a meeting with APC stakeholders in the state, Saraki said Nigerians must hold the president and the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, responsible for the commitment not to further shift the election.
“My own concern is that we do not plunge ourselves into any constitutional crisis as you all know that the issue of May 29 is sacrosanct. There is nothing that can happen to that. I think that we don’t want to be pessimistic. Today the National Security Adviser made a statement that there would be no further postponement to March 28. The entire country should hold government responsible and accountable to that commitment including the President himself,” he said.
