Press Release - CVR Exercise: Kwara APC wants Police to reverse ban on party agents at polling booths.
The APC said, "the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) as an institution established by Law, must allow itself to be guided by Law and History rather than arbitrariness.
In a statement issued at Ilorin, Wednesday, by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, the APC said, "the INEC, not Police Command, has the constitutional powers to determine who will be at polling units during CVR exercise".
"The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise is conducted by INEC not the Police Command. It was INEC that requested the participation of political parties and deployment of party agents to polling booths.
"Meanwhile, It should interest the Police Command that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that gave the directive to political parties to deploy party agents to polling booths during the CVR exercise has made a public announcement in clear terms to affirm and reiterate the directive.
"In any electoral process, the duty of the police is to ensure voters and would-be voters comply with INEC laws and guidelines, not to give counter unlawful orders.
"Since INEC has affirmed its initial directive that party agents should participate in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the Kwara State Police Command should summon the courage to reverse itself on the unlawful ban forthwith.", the statement read.
