KWARA GOVERNOR TASKS YOUTHS ON PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has charged citizens of the state to henceforth be ambassadors of peace in other to achieve a secured future for the country.
Governor Ahmed made this appeal in Ilorin, yesterday, while declaring open a two-day peace summit organised by office of the first lady of the state.
The governor described peace as the essential ingredient that guarantees growth and development in any society, noting that governance must be anchored on openness in order to engender confidence of the people.
His words: 'Shared wealth, shared prosperity are essential for attaining peace in any society.
"For a secured future, Nigeria must harness the best of different groups to come out with high breed for the good of this and the coming generations.
Ahmed therefore advised youths not to allow themselves to be used for violent activities by disgruntled people but as positive change agents.
Earlier in her remarks, wife of the State Governor and initiator of the Peace Summit, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed said the summit was part of efforts of Nigeria's first lady, Mrs. Dane Jonathan to foster peace and unity in the country.
The first lady commended Mrs. Jonathan for her consistent effort in bringing issues of peace, unity and progress of the country to the front burner.
She noted that Nigerians have the responsibility of ensuring the success of the present democratic experience in order to entrench political stability and socio-economic progress.
