Kwara victimising Offa LG - ACN
The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has protested the alleged victimisation of Offa Local Government by the Kwara State government being the only one council controlled by the party in the state.
A member of ACN Caretaker Committee in the state, Prince Shuaib Olanrewaju, who raised the allegation in a statement, condemned the recall of the executive of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDPcontrolled Oyun Local Government which was suspended in February along with that of Offa following a bloody clash between Offa and Erin-Ile.
Olanrewaju said ACN's apprehension that the government action in February was a smokescreen by the PDP- controlled state government to take control of Offa council had been justified.
He alleged that the state government flagrantly disregarded the order of the Appeal Court which nullified the election into the office of Offa Local Government chairman and directed that another election be held within 90 days.
The ACN chieftain also said that an alleged attempt to assassinate the former Chairman of the council, Prince Saheed Popoola, further buttressed the fear of the party in this regard.
Olanrewaju lampooned the government for not taking a similar action against Ifelodun and Edu local governments where there were bloody communal clashes neither was the same rule applied when the Ganmo bloody clashes happened earlier in the year.
He therefore implored the government to also recall Offa Local government and salute the Offa people for their steadfastness and support for ACN.
However, the state government has said that it was not partial in its action, pointing out that the lifting of the suspension on Oyun Local Government executive followed peace which had been restored in the council.
