Unuanel fears for life at Sunshine
The Afonja Warriors on Saturday had their training disrupted by hoodlums suspected to be supporters of Sunshine Stars at the stadium.
Unuanel said his side are now scared going into the game as no one can ascertain the crowd reactions should the outcome of the match fail to meet their expectations.
“We were attacked by the hoodlums while our match balls, property and personal effects including cash were looted and damaged in the unprovoked attack.
“We were at the stadium for pre-match shake-up before being accosted by the unruly and hostile crowd.
“Even though it is a common phenomenon that fans verbally threaten opponents, I have not witnessed or experienced practical attack on teams that come for pre-match training in my career as it happened to my side today (Saturday) in Akure.
“We’re afraid for our lives going into the game more so as nobody could predicts the fans reactions should the result go the other way.
“We’re talking of human lives here, we don’t want calamity to befall the league.
“I’m terrified as I speak with you, this uncouth act should be totally eradicated from the game of football.
“I’m not saying Sunshine Stars attacked us but what those who claimed to be representing their interest did is condemnable and unhealthy for the growth of the game.
“Of course, Sunshine Stars enjoyed the best of hospitality when they visited llorin in the first fixture even though honours were shared they left unmolested.
“The truth must be said I’m afraid same as the entire team to go out there tomorrow (Sunday) to face same thousands of hostile crowd, we don’t have the power over life but we believe further ugly incident could be averted,” said the former Ocean Boys coach to supersport.com.
Kwara United are fourth on the log on 34 points while Sunshine Stars occupy the 13th spot on 28 points.
The llorin-based side have therefore called on the League Management Company (LMC) to reschedule the encounter to prevent more casualties.
