Construction, renovation of Kwara schools gulp N2 bn
Ilorin Kwara State government has spent over N2 billion on the construction, renovation and fabrication of furniture in the last two years. The chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB Alhaji Lanre Daibu, disclosed this on Monday, while speaking with journalists.
He noted that the gesture cut across the three senatorial districts of the state adding that, “Kwara SUBEB, in the last two years have built 400 new classrooms, renovated dilapidated ones and fabricated over 4, 000 furniture in public schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.”
Daibu said that the students’ enrolment in public schools had improved, attributing the success to the support and commitment of the state government to revamp education sector.
He however expressed delight over increase in the number of female enrolment in schools, which, he said would reduce level of illiteracy in the state. “Government would not renege in the provision of welfare packages to teaching and non- teaching staff to ensure optimal productivity”, he added.
The SUBEB boss further disclosed that the board had procured 27 Hilux van out of which one was allocated to each of the 16 Local Government Area for monitoring exercise saying: “Education is free in the state and pupil should not be sent out of school on account of school fees.”
