Kwara Consoles Student Union over Leader's Death

Date: 2013-06-15

The Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, has described as shocking and unfortunate the death of the Senate President ofNational Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Mr Donald Onukaogu.

Donald and four others passed away in a fatal motor accident on Thursday along the Ikot-Ekepere road in the Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.

A statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba, said it was particularly painful that these young Nigerians were cut down in their prime.

Mr Ahmed noted that with the demise of the student leaders, Nigeria has lost a crop of young Nigerians with leadership traits that could enhance the process of nation building.

He commiserated with the families of the deceased, the leadership and members of NANS and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss and grant the departed souls eternal rest.

The tragedy occurred Thursday morning along Ariam-Ikwuano local government area, shortly after the NANS executives made a brief stop at Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture situated just a few kilometres before Ariam.

The NANS President Donald Onukaogu, who was driver of the bus, also a student of Federal University Technology Owerri (FUTO), died on the spot.
