Omu-Aran Banks Robbery: Youths Hail Slain Vigilance Member

The youths in Omu-Aran, Kwara yesterday described, Dapo Awoyale,  popularly called ‘Igbin’, one of the victims of the last Tuesday armed robbery attack on banks in the town as a hero who should be immortalised.

The youths under the ages of Omu-Aran Youth Forum said the courage and rare effrontery exhibited by the young vigilance member to save the banks from attack should be commended by all and sundry.

Mr. Yemi Aransiola, a councilor, representing Ihaye Omu-Aran Ward 2 and leader of the forum, described the deceased as a responsible youth who would stop at nothing to protect and uplift his community.

He challenged those questioning the wisdom of the deceased in confronting the armed robbers as unpatriotic, saying Awoyale should rather be commended and immortalised for dying a hero to save his community.

“We the youths in Omu-Aran will do all within our powers to make sure that his courage and boldness was not done in vain, even in death.

“We will do our possible best to make sure that he is given a heroic and befitting burial and to immortalise his name,” Aransiola said.

Meanwhile, sympathisers have continued to throng the Ile-Nla compound of the deceased in Omu-Aran to commensurate with the family over the unfortunate incident.

Mrs. Comfort Awoyale, the deceased’s step mother described him as an easy going and responsible man who would stop at nothing to unite the family.

Mrs. Fadekemi Awoyale, the deceased’s wife described the death of her husband as tragic and devastating and urged the community, government and the bank whom he was trying to protect to assist in the education of his children.

Awoyale, a vigilance member in Omu-Aran, was said to have confronted and came face to face with the invading bank robbers on Tuesday evening leading to his death through a grenade attack after all effort to fall him with bullets had reportedly failed.
