Ahmed Commends FG on Amnesty Plan for Boko Haram
The presidency recently set up a committee to look into the possibility of granting amnesty to Boko Haram.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara on Wednesday commended the Federal Government for setting up a committee to look into the possibility of granting amnesty to members of the Boko Haram.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba.
Mr. Ahmed described the Federal Government's resolve to explore the possibility of granting amnesty to Boko Haram members as a welcome development.
He also described the decision as a bold step that could lead to the restoration of peace not only in the Northern part of the country but in the country as a whole.
"I whole heartedly support the granting of amnesty to the Boko Haram members," the governor said, adding that granting amnesty would provide a platform for Boko Haram members to unmask themselves and lay their grievances on the table.
He said it would also enable the Federal Government and all Nigerians to appreciate the grievances of the group against the country.
Mr. Ahmed called on Nigerians to be advocates and ambassadors of peace, saying that no society could develop in a state of rancour and violence.
