ABS: We accept NPL decision in good fate

Date: 2012-03-08

The management of Abubakar Bukola Saraki, ABS FC, has accepted in good faith the decision by the NPL that the club should henceforth play its home matches behind closed doors due to the violence that erupted at the Ilorin Township stadium when Kwara United played Sunshine Stars last Saturday.

Following the acts of hooliganism exhibited by the home fans, the acting chairman of the NPL, Mr. Tunji Babalola promptly sanctioned the two clubs and added that ABS which shares the same venue with Kwara United would play its home matches behind closed doors.

The decision is said to be targeted at the irate fans that disrupted the Kwara United versus Sunshine Stars match when it was three minutes to the end of the game.

Speaking to Trustsports yesterday, the Team Manager of ABS, Alloy Chukwuemeka, said the club has taken the decision of the NPL in good fate because they understand the reason for the decision.

He said the decision is meant to punish the fans who took the laws into their hands and ABS has no problem with it.

Chukwuemeka added that ABS sympathizes with Kwara United over the unfortunate incident saying whatever happens to United affects his club also.

He, however expressed hope that NPL would temper justice would mercy once it is convinced that the fans have turned a new leaf.

"Well, we have no problem with the decision by the NPL. We take it in good fate because it is not targeted at us by the irate fans who took the laws into their hands.

"Moreover, Kwara United is a sister club and anything that affects them affects us as well. We always share in their joy and we are ready to share in their moment of grief.

"What happened is very unfortunate but we hope that NPL would reconsider its decision the moment it is clear that the fans have repented. We like to play before our fans and we cannot wait for too long to have them back. However, we are calling on our fans to imbibe spirit of sportsmanship", he appealed.
