Unilorin Orders Hostel Owners to Refund Early Accommodation Fees Within 72 Hours
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), has directed private hostel operators to immediately stop collecting accommodation fees for the 2026/2027 academic session before the university officially releases the list of students in good standing.
Speaking during a meeting with hostel owners on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Professor Egbewole described the premature collection of accommodation fees as an attempt to undermine the university's authority and established academic processes.
He stressed that hostel operators must wait for the Senate's official release of the good-standing list before accepting payments from students seeking accommodation for the new academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor also ordered any hostel operator who had already collected advance accommodation fees to refund the affected students within 72 hours.
Responding on behalf of the hostel operators, the Chairman of the Association, Mr Williams Adedeji, acknowledged the university's directive and assured the management of full compliance.
He pledged that all private hostel operators would adhere to the instruction and ensure refunds were made where necessary.
