KWASU Hands Over Two Electric Vehicles to Kwara State Innovation Ministry
Kwara State University (KWASU) has handed over two vehicles converted from petrol to electric power to the Kwara State Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology.
Presenting the vehicles on behalf of Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, Chairman of KWASU HoldCo, Professor Kenneth Adeyemi, described the project as a major success that supports environmental sustainability and delivers tangible economic value.
He expressed appreciation to the Ministry for entrusting KWASU with the initiative and confirmed that the remaining vehicles under the conversion programme will be completed and presented by September 2025.
"The manual for the operation and maintenance of the vehicles is ready, and we are prepared to train the drivers who will be using them," Professor Adeyemi said.
The handover marks a significant step in the state's push for green technology and innovation-led development.
Professor Adeyemi thanked the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, for providing KWASU with the opportunity to showcase its commitment and capacity to contribute to society by converting government vehicles into functional electric ones.
"I would like to seize this opportunity to thank His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and the Commissioner, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology, for their confidence in KWASU and for allowing us to partner with the Ministry on Electric Vehicle Conversion (EVC).
"It is a fact that Kwara State University is a veritable centre of excellence for technology and innovation, and this seamless conversion is proof of concept of the technological and innovative possibilities supported by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology."
Receiving the keys to the vehicles at the Ministry's premises, the Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, expressed satisfaction with the work done and commended the KWASU team for their initiative and the hard work that led to the successful conversion of the vehicles.
The handover ceremony was attended by members of KWASU HoldCo and staff of the Ministry.
