Mr Moshood Kolobo of Temidire Community, Oko-Olowo area, Ilorin, Kwara State, has petitioned the Area Court in Centre-Igboro for the dissolution of his 17-year Islamic marriage to his wife, Mrs Hafsat Kolobo, citing a loveless relationship spanning over a decade and a half.

The application was made on Wednesday during a hearing, with Mr Kolobo stating that the union lacked emotional connection and affection, prompting his request for separation. He urged the court to grant his application promptly.

Mrs Kolobo, however, expressed shock at the sudden legal action, noting the couple's 17-year marriage and five children. She requested a two-week adjournment to consider the matter, stating: "I was summoned without prior notice. After 17 years and raising five children together? I need time to process this."

The court granted the adjournment and will reconvene later to review the case. The proceedings underscore challenges in maintaining marital harmony within Islamic legal frameworks in Nigeria.

The presiding judge, Mr Toyin Aluko, adjourned the case until June 23 for further mention.
