Kwara Govt Clarifies: No Tax Holiday, Three-Month Bonus Was Approved

Date: 2025-04-11

The Kwara State Ministry of Tertiary Education has issued a clarification regarding recent media reports erroneously claiming the approval of a tax holiday for state workers, dismissing the claims as entirely false and a misrepresentation of the Ministry's statements.

In a formal rejoinder, the Ministry clarified that no tax holiday was approved. Instead, the state government had earlier implemented a three-month bonus for civil servants affected by the correct application of Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) deductions in 2024. This bonus was designed to ease the transition period and was explicitly communicated as a temporary relief measure.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu, referenced this bonus during a recent meeting with the Joint Committee of Colleges of Education, which was misconstrued in media reports.

The Ministry urged media outlets and the public to disregard the incorrect report and adhere to this official clarification.
