Kwara Officials Inspect Gbugbu Market, Push for Trader Organisation to Boost Efficiency
The Kwara State Government has conducted an assessment visit to the newly completed International Market in Gbugbu, Edu Local Government Area, as part of efforts to ensure seamless operations in the facility.
During the inspection, Hon. Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, Commissioner for Business, Innovation, and Technology, expressed gratitude to Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing infrastructure to boost commercial activities in the state. He urged traders to prioritise cleanliness and adhere to designated stall allocations to maintain an orderly marketplace.
The commissioner further recommended the formation of structured trader groups, grouping vendors of similar goods (e.g., grains) into specific zones to enhance efficiency and organisation. He also called for the unification of existing traders' associations to improve coordination and streamline market operations.
The Chairman, Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Engr. (Mrs.) Shade Omoniyi, emphasized the need for proper market management to ensure its sustainability and maximize revenue generation for the state, while urging stakeholders to utilize the market efficiently.
Engr. Omoniyi noted that the strategic location of the market serves as a major hub for farmers from neighbouring communities and called for collective cooperation to make the market a thriving commercial centre.
Meanwhile, at the Emir of Lafiagi's palace where the Commissioner and her entourage had paid a courtesy visit, the Emir, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, expressed his gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq-led administration for its continuous support to the community, appealing for the rehabilitation of the Lafiagi Daily Market to further boost local trade and economic activities.
