IEDPU Appeals for Remodeling of Akerebiata Bridge and Flyovers at Shao and Oko-Olowo Junctions

Date: 2025-01-02

The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has called on the Federal and Kwara State Governments to ensure the speedy completion of the ongoing reconstruction of the two Moro bridges along Kaiama road in Asa local government area of the state.

The union also appealed to the state government to remodel the bridge at the Akerebiata area, along Sobi Barracks road, Ilorin, due to its continual over-flooding whenever it rains.

Additionally, it appealed to the federal government to consider constructing flyover bridges at Shao and Oko-Olowo express road junctions to save further loss of lives of commuters along the route.

These requests were made in a communique at the end of the IEDPU's 59th annual conference held between December 25 and 26, 2024, in Ilorin and Fufu, the headquarters of Ilorin South local government area of Kwara State. The communique was signed by the chairman of the Communique Drafting Committee, Jimoh Ajadi, and the national publicity secretary of IEDPU, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahim.

The union, however, hailed the ongoing urban renewal efforts of the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

” In view of the continuous growth and expansion being witnessed by Ilorin as a community as well as the emergence of new layouts around Ilorin metropolis such as Madi, Oko-Olowo, Ita-Elepa, Osin and so on , the Union hereby call on the state and local governments to consider the establishment of pubic schools and primary healthcare centres in those communities to serve the growing populace.

” As a people-oriented government, the union wishes to appeal to the state government to extend, also, its ongoing rural roads infrastructure and rehabilitation scheme to these communities to facilitate smooth economic and social activities,” the communique added.

On restructuring of the polity, the IEDPU said that the people of Ilorin Emirate strongly believe in Nigerian's unity and therefore resolved that the restructuring be limited to devolution of power.

The union applauded the recent autonomy granted local governments across the country, expressing the hope that the third tier of government would make judicious use of the opportunity to better the lives of the citizens.

On security, the union praised the efforts of the state and federal governments in combating crimes and criminalities in the society.
