Kwara, Adamawa, Kebbi, FCT Delay Report on State Police
The National Economic Council (NEC) has issued a one-week ultimatum to three states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to submit their reports on the establishment of state police in Nigeria.
The Council had earlier resolved to compile a comprehensive report from all 36 states and the FCT to advance the creation of state police. NEC cautioned that any decisions made on the matter would apply to states that fail to meet the deadline.
President Bola Tinubu had on February 15, 2024, agreed on the need to establish State Police as recommended by state governors.
The move is aimed at curbing the rising insecurity in the country.
To this end, states were tasked to submit their reports to the Council for deliberation and further action.
