Kwara Assembly Calls for NYSC Partnership to Increase Medical Graduates in Rural Areas
The Kwara State House of Assembly has urged the state government to collaborate with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to boost the number of medical graduates deployed to Kwara for their mandatory one-year service.
This appeal followed a motion presented by Bello Oniboki, representing Afon State Constituency, titled "The Need for Kwara State Government to Partner with NYSC to Increase the Deployment of Medical Graduates to Kwara State to Support Rural Medical Services."
Leading the debate, Oniboki emphasized that a partnership focused on deploying medical graduates could help address the shortage of healthcare personnel, particularly in the state’s rural communities.
Other lawmakers who spoke on the motion, supported it even as they observed that the number of medical Doctors in the state are limited as a result of limited number of doctors graduating from Universities and brain-drain syndrome affecting the country.
The Speaker of state Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu while reading the resolutions of the motion, urged Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq to direct the ministry of health to develop comprehensive and significant incentives that will motivate and encourage the corp members to work in the rural areas.
