Offa Community Demands Further Probe Into Logistics Behind 2018 Bank Robbery
According to news from Channels TV, Offa Descendants Union is urging the police to revisit the 2018 bank robbery case to ensure all parties involved are brought to justice."
Following the recent sentencing of the five convicts involved in the 2018 Offa bank robbery, the Offa community has called on law enforcement agencies to extend their investigation to those who allegedly provided logistical support to the robbers. The community believes that a thorough and comprehensive probe is necessary to ensure justice is fully served.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Chairman of the Offa Descendants Union (Home Branch), Tajudeen Shittu, expressed dissatisfaction with the initial police investigation. He urged the state government to revisit the tragic incident through a holistic investigation that considers all factors, individuals, and circumstances surrounding the crime. This, he stated, would dispel any lingering notion that the investigation was incomplete or inconclusive.
The April 5, 2018, robbery claimed the lives of 32 people, including nine police officers, and has since been a source of grief and demand for justice by the Offa community.
Specifically, he asked the police to revisit the confessional statements of the robbers and fish out those who supplied them with vehicles and weapons.
Justice Haleema Salman of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, last Thursday sentenced the five suspects to death by hanging.
They were found guilty of illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, and culpable homicide punishable by death.
It took six years before the case could be determined, however, the defence expressed interest in appealing the judgement
