Case Dismissed Against Kwara Movie Producer and Traditional Ruler Maroof Afolayan
According to the news reported by Daily Trust, an Ilorin magistrates' court, presided over by Magistrate Muhammed Adams, has dismissed the case against renowned movie producer and traditional ruler, Alhaji Maroof Adebayo Afolayan, the Oloba of Isale-Oba in Sanmora, lrepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The defendant had been brought to court by the police in March 2022 on charges of false personation and inciting public disturbance. However, the court, in its over 40-page judgment, acquitted Afolayan of all the charges, stating that the prosecution had failed to establish the alleged offences.
Magistrate Adams said the testimony of the six prosecution witnesses claiming that Oloba was purportedly dethroned was invalid.
He said the court lacked jurisdiction to try issues on chieftaincy matters.
The court, through the video evidence presented by two defence witnesses, established that the Eleju of Eju Land, Oba Mathew ldowu Ajiboye and his accomplice, molested Oloba and his family, beating him almost naked.
Magistrate Adams stated that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their case.
