36-Yrs-Old Ilorin National Museum In Deplorable Condition, Curator Cries Out

Date: 2024-07-23

According to a news report from This Day, Mrs Woleola Idebi, the Curator of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments in Ilorin, has expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the museum.

During a visit by the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators over the weekend, Idebi urged the federal government to expedite the renovation of the 36-year-old building. She noted that the museum's poor state has led to a significant decline in tourist visits.

“This structure was built in 1988 to protect our rich heritage and tradition and promote our national history. But we are not doing that.

“The museum is no longer attractive to woo tourists because of the current condition. The fences are falling apart, we do not have access to power supply and no chairs to sit on. I assumed office a week ago and I want to ensure the museum is visible to tourists, which prompted my speaking out.

“From the entrance, you can see it is not appealing, we need the government to renovate this museum”, she said.
