Kwara Farmers Get N48m FADAMA Fund

Date: 2013-01-21

The Kwara State government has disbursed N48 million to 28 FADAMA Community farmers associations in the state, being the second tranche of the FADAMA III World Bank assisted project.

The farmers who are mainly engaged in crop farming, fishery, poultry and other lives stock activities had received the sum of N97 million during the first tranche.

The state project Coordinator of FADAMA Usman Akanbi who presented the cheque to the beneficiaries in Ilorin urged them to use the money for the intended purpose.

He also admonished them to keep a hygienic environment and devise a good way of disposing waste materials to attract foreign investment.

He said, "the focal point is production, processing, storage and marketing down the value chain activities of agricultural production."

"To attract foreign intervention for most of our people, people have to step up on the level of neatness of their environment, if you are producing you must have a good way of disposing off the waste materials, the environment must be clean because some of these things are produced for human consumption and there is increasing concern by the global community about how we manage our environment. So if you do it well most global donor agencies are going to show interest in us", Akanbi said.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of performance of the beneficiaries under the first phase of the project, saying 90 per cent judiciously utilised the funds.

One of the beneficiaries and Chairman Ifesowapo Vulnerable Health group, Asa local government, Fadesewe Ademola said over N3milliom was given to his group, noting that the fund had assisted the community in running their poultry farm.
