Kwara Governor Mourns Former Military Governor of Benue
According to a news report from Daily Post, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has expressed his sadness over the passing of retired Air Vice Marshal Adebayo Lawal, former Military Governor of Benue.
The former minister of youth and sports, who was born in Offa, passed away on Sunday at the age of 83. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Monday in Ilorin, the governor extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Offa community, and the Nigerian Air Force.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has expressed sadness over the death of former Military Governor of Benue, retired Air Vice Marshal Adebayo Lawal.
DAILY POST reports that the former minister of youths and sport died on Sunday. The Offa-born military officer was aged 83.
Reacting to the sad development, the governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye on Monday in Ilorin, condoled with the family of the deceased, Offa community and the Nigerian Air Force.
The governor said the death of the former minister represents the end of an era in Nigeria's military history, especially the Nigerian Air Force, where he attained many milestones.
“His footprints in the Nigerian Air Force, his fine legacies as a community leader and statesman, and the ideals he lived for will help to preserve his memory”, the governor said.
AbdulRazaq prayed God for the repose of Lawal's soul and to preserve his family.
Born on Sept. 14, 1941, in Offa, Kwara, Lawal joined the Nigerian Air Force in 1963 as a pioneer officer.
