KWSG to close 57 road medians in Ilorin
Government has also approved Obbo Road and Agbo-Oba Road in Upper-Taiwo Road in Ilorin as one-way traffic.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Abubakar Amuda Kannike, who disclosed this yesterday in an exclusive interview with the Herald said the move was in line with the recommendation of a committee set up by the ministry to address traffic jam within Ilorin metropolis.
Some of the affected roads where medians are to be blocked are Maraba-Ipata-Ojagboro-Gambari-Adifa Junction(seven medians); A Division Roundabout-Unity/Taiwo Road junction(two medians); Isale Oja Roundabout-Surulere-YTK Station Roundabout (four medians); GTB-Tanke junction-University Gate(10 medians) and A Division-Ola-Olu, Offa Garage road(12 medians); among others.
The commissioner said the governor has approved full implementation of the recommendation to ensure traffic flow in the metropolis.
He said the committee noted 57 U-Turn points that create obstruction and hinder traffic flow.
He added that it has been further resolved that 200 traffic coded cone would be purchased to experiment on the blockage of the medians.
On its success, according to him, the blockage would be done with concrete materials. Thereafter, the cones would be transferred to KWARTMA for further usage.
Dr. Kannike restated government’s commitment to enforce compliance.
He, however, urged motorists to cooperate with the government, warning that government would not tolerate damage of public infrastructure.
