During the meeting, Governor AbdulRazaq was briefed on the current situation regarding illicit drug abuse in the state.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the NDLEA state commander, Ibrahim, presented his concerns and proposals to address the issue. He called for the establishment of student-led drug-free clubs in public secondary schools.
He disclosed that, “A proposal has been submitted to the state government on the potential impact of promoting peer education and positive social norms around drug use.”
Ibrahim also emphasised the need for increased operational support and funding to conduct raid operations in drug hotspots and dislodge drug joints, with a focus on reducing drug supply.
Furthermore, the NDLEA commander discussed the importance of rehabilitation facilities and strategies to expand access to effective treatment programmes for drug users. He appealed to the state government to support treatment and rehabilitation efforts by providing funding for those in need of help.
The Special Assistant on Drug Prevention and Control, Aileru, thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for his support and requested increased operational funding for the agency, as well as capacity-building initiatives for evidence prevention experts in the state. During the visit, Governor AbdulRazaq was presented with copies of Ibrahim's books, "Look Before You Leap" and "Drug Slave," and the NDLEA donated 500 copies of each book to the state government."
