Resident doctors strike: Consultants rescue patients at UITH
Consultants at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, have gone to the rescue of patients at the Federal government health facility as the nationwide strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, enters its second week.
DAILY POST reports that at the UITH, like many other teaching hospitals in Nigeria, the ongoing strike by the resident doctors which started some seven days ago, has placed heavy workloads on the consultants.
An official of the hospital who confided in our correspondent said, “our Consultants are up to the tasks. They work round the clock and are competently handling all cases brought before them, medical and surgical included.

“The hospital is not turning back any patient and will never, during this strike.
“All hands are on deck by the Management to ensure that no vacuum is created due to the strike,” he added.
In a telephone chat with DAILY POST in Ilorin on Tuesday, Chairman of NARD, Kwara State chapter, Dr Mubaraq Ijaya said the members were acting on the directive of the national body of the association.
“Until there is a counter directive from the national body, the indefinite strike will continue,” he added.
Recall that the Federal government slammed a 'No work, No Pay' policy on the members of NARD, as a result of the declaration of the indefinite strike.
