Balogun Fulani Seeks Role for Traditional Rulers

Date: 2012-12-27

As the National Assembly continues the review of the 1999 Constitution, a member of the Ilorin Emirate Council, Alhaji Durosinloun Atiku, has advocated for a clearly defined role for traditional rulers in the new constitution.

Atiku, who is the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, made the call recently in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that as custodians of the traditions and culture, the constitution should spell out specific roles for traditional rulers.

The Ilorin high chief urged the National Assembly to re-introduce into the new constitution provisions for the House of Chiefs as was the case during the First Republic.

Atiku also urged Kwarans to live in peace and shun any act that could undermine the peace and harmony the state was noted for.
