Civil Defence Corps is Grassroots-Based Security Agency - Yerima

Date: 2012-12-14

The new Kwara State commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gana Yerima, has said that 450 officers of the corps have undergone intensive military training preparatory to carrying of arms.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, the commandant said pipeline vandalism, among other prevailing crimes in the state, would be reduced to the barest minimum when the officers start to carry guns.

Commandant Yerima, who said the officials of the corps were disciplined individuals, added that he would carry on and improve on the ideals he met on ground.

Yerima, who described the corps as grass roots security organisation, added that the corps was an envy among other security agencies because the men and officials live among the people to ensure adequate security of lives and property.

He also promised to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies in the state to curb cases of criminality, while calling on residents of the state to provide useful information to reduce crime, stressing that security business was never a one-man business.
