KWHA Summons Commissioner Over Parks in Ilorin ...Confirms Bamigbola as CJ
The Kwara State House of Assembly has directed the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Amuda Kannike, to appear before it over the proliferation of motor parks in the IIorin metropolis.
The Speaker, Rasaq Atunwa, gave the order at the plenary session of the Assembly yesterday on a notice of motion on the issue.
All the members who contributed during the debate on the motion said the issue cannot be resolved without the appearance of the commissioner to brief the house on the measures involved before the establishment of a motor park.
The speaker directed the commissioner to appear along with the General Manager, state Road Traffic Maintenance Agency, his counterpart from the state transport corporation and the state Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).
Atunwa directed them to be prepared to furnish the house on what to be done before an approval for an establishment of motor park in any part of the state.
The speaker ordered suspension of deliberation on the motion until after the appearance of the commissioner.
Also at the plenary yesterday, the House confirmed the appointment of Justice Ayinla Bamgbola as substantive Chief Judge of the state.
This confirmation was in response to a request to that effect presented by Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed on Thursday last week.
Bamgbola, whose screening lasted about an hour, stressed the need for the empowerment of the state judiciary to aid quick dispensation of justice.
The Chief Judge while addressing Assembly correspondents after his confirmation promised to work more on prisons decongestion in the state.
He solicited the support, dedication and assistance of Judiciary workers in the state, the prison officials and other relevant agencies to allow him succeed in his new assignment.
Bamgbola has been acting in that capacity since September 18, immediately after the retirement of Justice Raliat Habeeb.
