Saturday was a black day for the Olanrewaju family of Gbabiabidun area of Opo-Malu Road in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State as its two infant daughters perished in a fire disaster that gutted their home.The inferno was said to have been precipitated by a candle light.

The victims, it was learnt, suffered only minor burn injuries but had died from inhaling smoke as the fire consumed their room.

The two sisters, identified as Opeyemi, 3; and Demilade, 1 were said to be sleeping at their father's Chemist Shop along Opo-Malu when one of their father's apprentices conveyed them home as the closing time drew nearer.

It was gathered that the father was busy at the shop attending to customers while the mother went to a nearby market to get items for dinner when the incident occurred.

It was gathered that a neighbour who saw smoke emitting from the room alerted other neighbours and passersby who rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

Efforts made by newsmen to reach the parents of the deceased were unsuccessful as they were said to have been taken to a relative's house in Gaa-Akanbi.

However, a neighbour who spoke in confidence with our correspondent blamed the Power Holding Company of Nigeria for the incident, saying that epileptic power supply was causing havoc to residents of the community.
