Kwara Local Govt Workers Commence Indefinite Strike

Date: 2012-10-22

Members of the National Union of Local Government Employees in Kwara State today began an indefinite strike over non-payment of three months salaries to some workers of the local governments. This is contained in a Kwara NULGE release made available in Ilorin

Local government workers in Kwara State have of late been having a running battle with their employers over non-payment of salaries. Scores of Ilorin South Local Government workers protested non-payment of salary arrears in early October.

Kwara NULGE in August gave a notice of strike if the issues were not resolved. The union at time blamed the joint account operated by the state and local governments for the inability of local governments to pay their staff.

However, the Kwara State government had variously blamed short-fall in allocation from the Federal government and non-capture of biometric information of some local government staff for the non-payment.
