A Kwara State family court sitting in Ilorin on Wednesday remanded Folorunsho Monday, a dismissed police officer attached to Ijagbo Divisional Police Station in a correctional service centre for allegedly abusing a 12-year-old girl.

Monday who committed the alleged offence was charged with sexual abuse and exploitation of child contrary to section 32 of Kwara State child's right law 2003.

The matter was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijagbo, to the State Criminal Investigation Department and referred to Human Trafficking, Women and Children Protection Unit for discreet investigation.

The dismissed officer was said to have sexually molested the young innocent girl on two different occasions.

Monday, who was an Inspector in charge of Ijagbo Police Station in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State allegedly called the girl who was hawking small chops along the street to the Police station and took her to one of the rooms where he allegedly had carnal knowledge of the girl.

The screaming of the girl was said to have attracted the attention of the youths in the town who invaded the Police Station and freed the girl.

The youth later protested in the town and called on the police authority to arrest and prosecute Monday who was subsequently given an orderly room trial before his dismissal from the police.

The trial magistrate, Mrs Folashade Lawal, ordered the remand of the accused in the Federal Government correctional facility in Ilorin and adjourned the case to January 20, 2021.
