KWSG PROMISES IMPROVED WELFARE FOR TEACHERS

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq says he will continue to honor teachers by ensuring improvement in their welfare and work environment.

Governor AbdulRazaq, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi stated this at a program marking the 2020 World Teachers Day organized by the National Union of Teachers, NUT Kwara State Wing in Ilorin.

He urged the teachers to reflect and adapt to the challenges brought to the global economy by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the need to key into virtual teaching techniques.

Abdulrazaq said that his administration is spending a lot to reposition schools across the State and stressed that the welfare and training of teachers would receive similar attention to improve their national ranking.

In his address, the NUT Chairman, Kwara State Wing, Comrade Olu Adewara appreciated the notable achievements of the government since assumption of office especially in the education sector which he said even "the blind can see" across the state.

Comrade Adewara appealed to the Governor to address the new minimum wage, delayed promotion and financial backup, salary disparity with their Teaching Service Commission counterparts, non-remittance of National Housing fund deductions, reinstatement of "sunset workers, among others.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Parent Teacher Association in Kwara State and the first Makama of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye appealed to the government to always carry along the body in decision making on issues affecting schools and enjoined the teachers be sincere in delivering their responsibilities for them to earn beautiful rewards.

The programme featured a lecture titled " Teachers Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future" by Dr Adeyemo Adeyemi as well as goodwill messages from the representatives of the Teachers' Registration Council, Nigeria Labour Congress, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools and other stakeholders in the education sector.
