Kwara auto parts dealer loses N70m goods to fire

Date: 2019-02-05

A middle-aged trader, Samuel Okoye, whose warehouse was razed by fire on Olorunsogo Street, Amilegbe area of Ilorin, in the Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, has said he lost motorcycle parts worth over N70m to the inferno and has appealed to the government and well-meaning people to assist him to revamp his business.

Okoye made the appeal in Ilorin on Saturday while supervising the clearing of the burnt warehouse.

Okoye told PUNCH Metro that the fire gutted his warehouse on Wednesday and destroyed all the motorcycle parts stored in the two-storey building.

Okoye stated, "I was in my shop at G138, Ojagboro Road, Ilorin, where I was attending to customers when I received a call around 6.30pm that there was fire in the building that I used as a warehouse for my business."

The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the incident and attributed it to arson or a wilful act.

The Head of Department, Media and Publicity, KSFS, Mr Adekunle Hassan, said that though the agency was not informed on time as the inferno had escalated before its men got to the scene, the fire was put under control within eight minutes.
