Kwara FRSC Sensitises Motorists
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Saturday in Ilorin embarked on a road show to sensitise the public on the need to reduce road crashes in the "ember months".
According to the Zonal Commanding Officer of Zone 8, Kwara, Kehinde Adeleye, the programme is tagged "The Change We Need to Reduce Crashes’’.
He told newsmen that the show was aimed at educating motorists to reduce the spate of road traffic crashes.
The FRSC officials in the sector, which comprises Ekiti, Kogi and Kwara, distributed sensitisation leaflets and hand bills to vehicle owners and issued free safety check list to them.
Adeleye said the programme was to advice motorists, and not to make arrests or enforce law, adding that after the programme men of the corps would return to the roads to enforce law.
Reports say some motorists commended FRSC for the initiative, and said that such crusade was crucial, particularly at this period of the year.
Some of the leaflets shared read "use safety belt", "avoid overloading", "obstruction and over speeding", "over confidence, overtaking is dangerous" and "call 112 in case of emergency or road traffic crash".
The Kwara Sector Commander, Mr. Christopher Ademoluti, said that the campaign was meant to sensitise Nigerians on the importance of using seat belt and danger of using cell phones while driving.
He appealed to motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and overloading, light sign violation and other road vices.
Ademoluti said FRSC had commenced registration of new number plates after the lifting of the embargo on the production by the National Assembly on July 15.
He enjoined motorists to obtain the plates before the end September, which is the stipulated grace period.
