Offa Bank Robbery: Abuja Court bans police from inviting, arresting, detaining Saraki

Date: 2018-08-09

A High Court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, yesterday, barred the Nigeria Police Force from further inviting, arresting or interrogating the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki over the April 5, Offa banks robbery incident.

The presiding Judge, M.A Nadir gave the order while delivering ruling in the motion number M/8280/2018 brought by 10 lawyers, led by Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere for the enforcement of the fundamental human rights of the Senate President as guaranteed by sections 34,35,36, and 41 of the Nigerian Constitution and articles 2,4,5,6,10 and 12 of the African Charter on Human and peoples right.

The judge however restrained the Attorney General of the Federation and Commissioner for Justice, Abubakar Malami, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and the Nigeria Police force from any action tantamount to harassing the person of the Senate President.

Justice Nadir further submitted that no action should be taken by the security agencies pending the hearing of the substantive matter filled by 10 human rights lawyers in suit number CV/2454/18.

Recall that on the 5th April, armed robbers invaded Offa community, robbed no fewer than seven financial institutions and killed more than 33 persons in the operation.
