Codeine: Atiku reacts to reopening of Emzor pharmaceuticals, others

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has spoken on the reopening of Emzor Pharmaceuticals and two other drug companies.

Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, in a statement at the weekend, lifted the shutdown slammed on Peace Standard Pharmaceutical Limited and Bioraj Pharmaceutical Limited in Ilorin, Kwara State, and Emzor Pharmaceuticals Ind. Ltd, Lagos, for codeine syrup distribution.

She directed the companies to resume normal operations.

Reacting, Atiku writing on his Twitter page, expressed joy over the decision.

The former Vice President wrote: "I'm glad NAFDAC has reopened Emzor Pharmaceuticals. It is the right thing to do.

"I support the ban on codeine production, but we can achieve this without shutting down biz that provide jobs for Nigerians.
