Survival Battle Takes Centre Stage In Ilorin

Date: 2018-04-21

For some weeks running now, the Ilorin Township Stadium has hosted matches for the teams struggling to remain in the Nigerian topflight. Not quite long ago, Kwara United entertained El-Kanemi Warriors, who are fighting for survival, at the same venue and the match ended 1-1.

This weekend, the Harmony Warriors will be the hosts of another newly promoted side, Go Round FC of Omoku. The Rivers State-base team is struggling for survival after finding it hot to effectively compete in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

While Kwara United are second from last on the table with 17 points from 16 matches, Go Round area merely above board with a step higher than their hosts. They have 18 points from 15 matches. A possible win for Kwara United will likely take them steps above the red zone with 20 points.

But one fact is certain; the Harmony Warriors are not even invincible at home. In their last six matches, they have won thrice, drew twice and lost once, which was a matc-day-14 0-1 loss to Rivers United, where Chikere Osita silenced the Ilorin crowd in the 94th minute.

Even at that, a possible draw is predicted but that will be if Go Round improve on their away results. The Omoku side have lost all their matches outside their base – a result the Ilorin side should capitalise on to fight for the three points.
