Saraki Canvasses Holistic Approach to Poverty Alleviation

Date: 2012-09-01

The senator representing Kwara Central, Dr Bukola Saraki has canvassed a holistic approach as the most potent weapon to tackle poverty in the country.

Speaking in Ilorin yesterday at the inspection of the surveyed sites of 26 boreholes in his constituency, Saraki said he believes that poverty would continue to stare Nigerians in the face if stakeholders in the country should make the duties of provisions of social amenities for the citizens the exclusive functions of the Executive arm of government.

"Nigeria is a project of all and we must start seeing it that way. Again, it is a certainty that government cannot provide for the needs of over 160 million Nigerians. What we need to do therefore is to complement the efforts of the executive arm so that Nigerians can continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy," he said.

Already, the contractor for the projects has been mobilized while the cooperation of the traditional rulers at the earmarked project zones have been sought ahead. The projects are due for commissioning before the end of the year.

According to Alhaji Kayode Suleiman, Saraki's aide, the projects include 10 hand pump boreholes and three motorised type.

Areas that would benefit from the constituency projects include Egbejila, Ajikobi, Alanamu, Akanbi Ward 5, Ibagun, Oloje, Aboto-Odo-Ode, Aawe- Orimaro, Alagbado, Oko- Erin and Ogidi.
