Date: 2018-02-09

The Kwara State House of Assembly on Thursday summoned the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Finance over alleged cut in January salaries paid to teachers and other workers by the 16 local governments in the state.

The Assembly also summoned the 16 chairmen of the local governments and other stakeholders to come to explain why teachers and local government workers in the state were not paid full salaries in January.

The summon was sequel to adoption of a motion on matter of public importance about the need for the House to look into the account of all the 16 local government councils in the state.

The motion, which enjoyed the support of all legislators, was raised by the House Leader, Mr Hassan Oyeleke.

Oyeleke, in his submission said the information reaching the House indicated that workers in the 16 councils and the SUBEB were not paid their January salaries fully in spite of adequate allocation.

The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad, directed the Clerk of the House to write letters of summon to all the affected officials.

He also directed the House Committee on Public Accounts and Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to work on the matter and report back to the assembly within two weeks.
